Military Moms Collective Media Kit

The Military Moms Collective is a collaborative web-based community for military families all over the world. With almost one-quarter of a million unique monthly visitors, the website is a large and valuable source of support and information for military spouses. This seven-page graphic-rich media guide was designed so the site’s directors could show potential sponsors how well-viewed their potential advertisement could be. I managed the project, compiling data and articles from multiple contributors. In addition to the basic layout and design, I created all of the info graphics and created a style-guide so that all typographic and color choices harmonized with those use on the website.

Snowy Hawk

I’m very proud that this snowy scene was selected as a winner in the 2018 KU Endowment Association Illustration Contest. It was used by the Association in print, online and throughout social media. My goal when starting the piece was to present a strong, monochromatic image, with the KU colors providing an eye-catching highlight. And that goal seemed to resonate with the judges.
During my days at KU, I drew the Jayhawk a lot of times for editorial cartoons in the “University Daily Kansan.” I’m excited that my artwork will again be shared with fellow KU-loving ‘Hawks. Rock Chalk!

This addition to my travel poster series was completed just in time for the 2020 Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. Unfortunately, the festival was canceled and even access to the blossoming trees was restricted because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Still, I was very pleased with how this illustration turned out, and many customers who bought prints are able to enjoy the blossoms hanging on their walls year round.

This original vintage-style travel poster was inspired by a recent trip to Northern Africa. The main composition shows the Jami’ al-Kutubiyah mosque, Marrakesh’s largest and most prominent, surrounded by palms and orange trees in the foreground. The Atlas Mountains form the backdrop. I’m proud of the detail in this piece, especially the Arabic script that forms the poster’s border.

Wiesbaden Travel Poster by Matt Hood

This colorful travel poster captures scenes of the historical highlights of Wiesbaden, Germany, a gorgeous spa town in the valley of the Rhein River just a short drive from bustling Frankfurt. On the six-scene poster below. clockwise from top left, the Russian Orthodox Church – known locally as the Griechische Kapelle – stands sentinel in the hills north of the town. The Kurhaus has drawn generations worth of visitors to its calming and rejuvenating parkland setting. The imposing Marktkirche, which survived Allied bombing in WWII, is center stage in Wiesbaden’s main square. One of main gateways to Wiesbaden, the Hauptbahnhof stands amid verdant settings. Luisenplatz is home to the city’s oldest Catholic Church, St. Bonifatius and an equestrian statue that honors those how died fighting Napoleon. And finally, the classical 19th-century Nerobergbahn funicular still takes visitors up to the heights of Neroberg for impressive views of all of Wiesbaden.
