SSG Michael H. Ollis Staten Island Ferry

Staten Island Ferry Poster

In 2013, Army Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis tackled a suicide bomber who was part of an insurgent raid on a Forward Operating Base in Ghazni, Afghanistan. In doing so, Ollis saved the lives of several other soldiers. In 2021, a new state-of-the-art commuter ferry named in his honor was dedicated at the St. George terminal in Staten Island. The new 100-million-dollar ship will connect Ollis’ hometown of Staten Island with Lower Manhattan, daily passing the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline that was forever altered on September 11, 2001.

I was honored to work with the SSG Michael Ollis Freedom Foundation to create this travel-poster-style illustration to commemorate the ferry’s dedication and help spread the story of this hero’s selfless sacrifice.

Wiesbaden Homes

Wiesbaden, Germany, is full of beautiful, historic architecture. Many of its fine buildings were constructed around the turn of the last century. And many of these are not only works of art to look at, they are the place a family calls home. Several families have commissioned me to illustrate their Wiesbaden homes, so they can carry a piece of Germany with them no matter where their future home may be.

John Kimpel Obituary Art

John Kimpel’s Tribute

The world lost an amazing man on Oct. 8.
In nearly everything he did, John Kimpel put the ‘great’ in Greatest Generation. Where he was concerned, that label held no hyperbole.
He was always Uncle John to me, although we weren’t related. He was my next-door neighbor growing up, and for those 18 years in Overland Park, it was like having the best mix of all my grandparents right next door. I am who I am today in no small part because of his influence and his example. I loved him dearly.

Rheinblick Golf Course - Hole 18

Rheinblick Golf Course

“Rheinblick” in German means “view of the Rhein.” The rather obvious name of this golf course belies the absolute beauty of its geographic situation. The course is hilly and sloped, and every few holes – if one can stay out of the thick trees – a player is rewarded with a glorious view of the Rhein River and nearby Mainz on the opposite bank. Atop the tallest hill is the clubhouse and Cem Klein’s Restaurant. This poster now hangs in the dining rooom, and customized prints baring members’ names or career low scores can be ordered by club members.

Military Moms Collective Media Kit

The Military Moms Collective is a collaborative web-based community for military families all over the world. With almost one-quarter of a million unique monthly visitors, the website is a large and valuable source of support and information for military spouses. This seven-page graphic-rich media guide was designed so the site’s directors could show potential sponsors how well-viewed their potential advertisement could be. I managed the project, compiling data and articles from multiple contributors. In addition to the basic layout and design, I created all of the info graphics and created a style-guide so that all typographic and color choices harmonized with those use on the website.
